CAVUM
CAVUM was born from my experiments with clay, exploring the relationship between space and form. These are clay abstractions, in which the essence is emptiness. It is like a living element, like silent breathing, no less important than the body that surrounds it. Just as important as the emotional space is for a person, in which he finds refuge for his soul, security, an oasis of peace, a silent dialogue with himself. CAVUM is an invitation to stop and listen to his inner self, an authentic meditation in the language of clay.
Every piece begins with a bespoke clay body, blended specifically for the task at hand. Because of this, each work is truly one-of-a-kind, possessing a unique shade, texture, and character that can never be replicated.
By hand-building each form using coiling techniques, I look for shapes that emerge naturally and evolve freely. It is a collaborative process; the clay dictates its own direction, and I simply follow its rhythm.
The work is fired at temperatures between 1150°C and 1300°C, depending on the technical properties of the specific clay body. This firing range coaxes out a full palette of textures and tones - from muted, earthy hues to the striking contrasts that define this collection.
CAVUM embodies the space between matter and the void. It is a meditation on the birth of form from an inner centre.
