NOCTIS LUMEN
When creating NOCTIS LUMEN, I always know it’s going to be about light. Although the pieces are dark - as if shrouded in mist - the subtle play of light within them speaks of an inner glow. Not the kind that dazzles, but the kind that lives slowly and quietly in the shadows. It seems that sometimes, only in the fog can you see what a sharp, bright image doesn't allow you to notice.
This collection is special to me. It’s where I feel my strongest connection to my grandmother - a woman of great dignity and strength. Her stories of surviving exile were always full of moments of silence, yet there was more power in that silence than in any words. In her poise, her gaze, and even her long pauses, there was a quiet knowing: that even in the deepest darkness, a light flickers. It wasn't showy, but it was incredibly resilient.
In this collection, the glaze takes centre stage. It evokes a clear night sky, illuminated by a shimmering trail of stars. Each piece is like a flash of light in the darkness, frozen in a moment caught between heaven and earth.
These works are hand-built from white, low-fire earthenware using coiling and slab-building techniques. The focus here is entirely on the surface - providing a canvas where the glaze can fully reveal its interplay of light, ranging from soft silver hues to the deep greys of midnight.
NOCTIS LUMEN is a quiet dialogue between light and shadow. It is a collection where the glaze becomes the poetry of the night upon the clay, and the form is its silent echo.
